about robin

Welcome to Robin Orvis Photography. Thanks for stopping by.

For years I was the person in the family who took "great" pictures. In college I took a few classes and realized I maybe had a talent. I graduated from Webster University with a degree in Communications and a minor in Business and moved to Los Angeles to work in the film and television industry. I spent the next 10 years as a production coordinator and script supervisor watching some amazing cinematographers create beautiful images. This is when I really fell in love with the drama and story telling possible with photography. I see everything as a film strip and love to create mini movie sets with you as my "star."

During those LA years I shot just for myself. It was a hobby, an obsessive hobby, but just a hobby. I even had a darkroom set up in my tiny apartment bathroom. I always took a couple of photography classes each year. I could just never quite leave photography alone. I started out in film and will always be a film shooter at heart, but as technology changes so must the artist. I shoot strictly digital now. Digital provides a lot more opportunities to extend my artistry. It's been an exciting change.

After the birth of my son, I wanted to be with family again. So my husband, 3 month old, and I moved to St. Louis. I grew up in Kirkwood and that's where we landed. We started over. It was quite a shock for us after living in LA for so many years. It took me a while to figure out what to do with myself. No matter what I tried I always came back to photography. I needed that creative outlet.

I opened Robin Orvis Photography in 2002 and haven't looked back. I'm proud to say that my family and children's portrait work is displayed in homes from New York to California to Florida, and everywhere in between. My children's portraits are featured in both local and national businesses and my non-portrait work is represented by Grafica Fine Arts Gallery in Webster Groves, Missouri.

Take your time and study my galleries. Decide which type of portrait speaks to you... which one tells you a story. Then, if you're ready to commission St. Louis's most unique fine art portrait artist, give me a call. I look forward to collaborating with you!
